Mitchell Ponseti© Brace
The Mitchell Ponseti© AFO Abduction Brace was developed in Iowa USA by John Mitchell of MD Orthopaedics in consultation with Dr Ignaçio Ponseti. The Mitchell Ponseti© brace is to be used after the clubfoot has been corrected by manipulation and serial casts and possibly a heel cord tenotomy in accordance with the recommended Ponseti method of treatment.
The Mitchell Ponseti© AFO clubfoot brace consists of an ankle foot orthotic (a sandal type shoe) attached to an adjustable bar (bought separately) with built in dorsiflexion. The angle that the shoes are set at can easily be adjusted to give the required degree of abduction for the corrected clubfoot.
The shoes are attached to the bar using the ‘Quick Clip’ system. The shoes can easily be clipped to, and unclipped from, the bar for ease of use.
In cases with stiffer feet, progress can easily be seen as the heels come down further in the shoe each week. Their location can easily be seen through 2 holes at the back of the shoes.
When used on atypical/complex clubfoot, the brace aids further correction by gradually increasing flexibility and dorsiflexion.

Standard ankle foot orthotic for use with the Ponseti method of clubfoot correction. The patented system features a hard sole, a soft rubber lining for comfort and compliance, and a soft synthetic leather body and straps. The location of the heel can easily be seen through two holes in the back of the AFO and the footwear attaches to the Ponseti® Bar (SOLD SEPARATELY), in accordance with the standard Ponseti bracing protocol, with built-in dorsiflexion.

Preemie sizes (P6-0 and P5-0), permanently attached to a straight bar, are available only in pairs.
